AnotationThe aim of the study is to monitor changes in the concentration of melatonin in saliva determined using the ELISA method and in the function of retinal ganglion cells measured by subjective and objective examination methods, including their mutual correlation in young healthy volunteers exposed to 96 hours of absolute darkness in a specially adapted dark chamber. We expect an increase in melatonin concentration due to long-term exposure to darkness, as well as significant changes in the MD parameter monitored using the Macula Threshold within the static perimetry program and the MagD/Mag Ratio parameters monitored within the pattern electroretinography. According to studies on animal models, melatonin is believed to have a neuroprotective and antioxidant effect. The added value is the direct and active involvement of medical students and their development within scientific research activities.
