| Anotation | The present project is a continuation of the SGS project carried out at the Department of German Studies in 2022, which aimed to analyse and describe the changes in the use of specialist vocabulary in the German press. The focus of the present project will be on terms from the fields of music and sports. The aim of the project is to find out how selected terms from these fields are used figuratively in German journalism. The largest German language corpus DeReKo (Mannheim) will be used as a material base. The analysis will focus both on the contexts in which the terms are used figuratively and, since the terms in these contexts serve as metaphors to clarify new, unknown facts, the facts that are denoted by the terms will also be described. At the same time, the functions that the terms perform in the context will be analysed, recognising that the original meaning of a technical term may not always be clear to the recipients. Frequency analyses will provide a picture of how widespread this phenomenon is in the German media. The research will also include a new contrastive perspective, as the use of selected terms in a figurative sense will be compared with their similar use in Czech journalism. The research will thus broaden the view of the specific function of specialist terms, which has so far received only marginal attention in research. |
