Anotation | Researchers have been paying attention to the collections of castles and chateaux since the early days of their public access. However, it has always been more about supplementing the art historical description of a given site with an inventory of furnishings or drawing attention to a significant work of art. If they focused their attention only on collections, it was usually on sets of paintings - sculpture was usually given the role of a mere complement to paintings or furnishings, especially if it was obvious that the works were imported. This research and the resulting publication will seek to fill, at least in part, this 'white space' in the stock of Gothic sculpture preserved in our territory. The unifying factor of the selected sculptures is their Alpine origin and, above all, their existence within three private historical collections that have survived, at least in some form, in the original, now accessible monuments: at Bouzov, Šternberk and Hradec nad Moravicí. The thesis will consist of two parts, the first will summarize more general research on collectors and their collections of Gothic art, and the second will attempt to compile a so-called scientific catalogue with references, which will form an equally important part of the thesis, far exceeding the scope of the introductory essay. All the sculptures under consideration have always been considered as imports, but their areas of origin and dating have usually been determined only in a general way. The analysis, based on the use of rich comparative material, will attempt to place a number of sculptures within a temporal, spatial and, in some cases, authorial circle. |
