Anotation | The investigation of insect trypanosomatids is providing an important foundation for understanding the origin and evolution of parasitism. The prevalence of trypanosomatid infections in Pyrrhocoris apterus was never systematically investigated in Austria. The aim of the project is to sample P. apterus in three distinct regions of Austria ? Vienna, Graz, and Innsbruck. The collected samples will be analyzed under the light microscope for the presence of trypanosomatid cells, following by parasites cultivation and characterization. All the cultures will be assayed for the presence of dsRNA viruses following the established protocols. Unusual dsRNA patterns will be further analyzed by Next-Generation sequencing. We will analyze ~ 75 specimens. Workshops for Austrian and Czech student will be organized to describe the topic. |
