Anotation | The family is characterized as a primary socializing factor. It determines the personality formation of the child not only in the framework of parental educational activities but also by family environment (Nakonečný, 1998).Only a functioning family is able to provide protection and care for its members (Výrost, Slaměník et al., 2008). The parents influenced by stressors are becoming a risk group and family functions can be disturbed. The illnesses of family members that consequently require an increased careare those stressors, which may interfere with an effective fulfilment of family functions and may have a negative impact on the quality of life of parents and carers. Demands imposed on parents or carers may be manifested in physical, psychological and social deprivation, and in inadequate satisfaction of the needs of all family members (Kurucová, 2016). In the Czech Republic, there is no standardised tool available to monitor the stress of parents taking care of a child with disability. A standardized tool used worldwide to measure and to identify the burden and stress of disabled children parents is thebParenting Stress Index ? short form (PSI) (Nazurah et al., 2016). The aim of the project is to verify psychometric features of the PSI test in the Czech cultural environment and to measure the level of burden and stress of parents with disabled children. Besides that, the aim is to find out the relation of stress and burden to selected factors affecting the parents with disabled children. The outcome of the study will be a measurement of actual stress and burden level of the parents of children with disability, which can be guidance to the selection of early and adequate interventions for a nurse, targeted on parents taking care of a child with disability and also an early identification of stress factors affecting parents. |
