AnotationNon-healing wounds are a serious health problem that affects approximately 2% of the population. A non-healing wound is a defect that fail to progress through an orderly sequence of repair in eight weeks. For the treatment of non-healing wounds, it is important to recognize the etiology of the wound and to take into account all the factors that affect the healing process. An important question is the choice of the right therapeutic dressing, since appropriately chosen material at the given healing stage can eliminate the spread of infection, prevent the development of complications, reduce the pain and discomfort of the patient. In addition to conventional dressing, alternative ways of treatment may be used for the treatment of non-healing wounds. One of these options is the application of honey dressing. The healing mechanisms and effects of honey have been demonstrated in a large number of clinical trials. The aim of the project is to investigate the clinical efficacy of honey materials in the treatment of non-healing wounds in seniors in home care. The research will be conducted as a prospective interventional study. The sample will consist of seniors with non-healing wounds in home care who will be divided into two groups: the intervention and control group. For the seniors in the intervention group, the non-healing wound will be treated with honey dressing. The control group will be treated with conventional wound dressing. The WHC classification will be used to evaluate the wound. The wound description will be recorded in the prepared protocol and photographic documentatio n of the wound healing course will be made. During research the wound healing time as well as the financial costs associated with the treatment will be monitored. Research on the effectiveness of honey on non-healing wounds is unique in the Czech Republic, so the outcome of this project can contribute to gaining further knowledge on the effectiveness of non-healing wound healing.
