| Anotation | The proposed project deals with de facto states, i.e. political entities that do have inner sovereignty, but whose external sovereignty is reduced because of limited or completely missing international recognition. De facto states in the Post-Soviet area are the principal subjects of the research. The research includes cases of de facto states that existed within the process of formation of the USSR, temporary de facto states after USSR dissolution and the conflicts that had been on the point of forming de facto states, but were eventually solved. Individual research tracks focus on historical de facto states, position of de facto states in the international system and their relations with mother countries and patron states, their legitimisation strategies and internal politics. A considerable part of the research is based on field research in currently existing de facto states. |
