| Anotation | The project focuses on historical semantics. Fortunatelly Czech historical semantics has a scholarly existing methodology for lexical analysis, and the medieval period has been studied in depth. However, the 19th century to the modern era has not received systematic study.The semantic changes in Modern Czech are illustrated not only with an analysis of the material in dictionaries, thesauruses, newspapers etc., but also includes the language material in the Czech National Corpus. The research into the historical semantics in modern times, known as Begriffsgeschichte, History of Concepts, Political Semantics and Critical Discourse Analysis, emanates from an interdisciplinary approach to semantics and the lexis. Therefore the knowledge of social, political and cultural history is a prerequisite for this work.The end result of this project is to create a monograph entitled "The Chapters on Historical Semantics". This represents the first complex linguistic study to incorporate existing Czech historical semantics, with that of the modern era in one complete volume. |
