Open Data

Open science practices include not only sharing, but also managing research data. According to Act 130/2002 Coll., research data includes information, excluding scientific publications, in electronic form, which is collected or generated in the course of research or development and is used as evidence in the research or development process or which is generally accepted by the research community as necessary to validate the findings and results of research or development.

Research data management and its subsequent inclusion in data management plans are often linked to open science. However, their connection is not always as straightforward as is commonly believed. Data management is typically associated with open science in the conditions and tender documents of research funding providers. In these documents, it plays a key role in the process of sharing data as part of open data requirements – however, responsible data management can be beneficial even for datasets which remain inaccessible after the end of the research project.
