Annotation: | In this course, you will learn about the process of publishing in scientific journals, publishing strategies (especially the selection of an appropriate journal), including basic rules and issues of academic ethics and integrity. The principles and tools for measuring scientific performance in relation to an appropriate publication strategy will be explained (including an explanation of the phenomenon of predatory journals and how to identify them), and the current systems of evaluation of scientific activity will be presented, both at the level of the Czech Republic and the University of Ostrava. Emphasis will be placed on learning about modern scientometry approaches, databases and IT tools used for the creation of rankings of research institutions, for the evaluation of institutions in the Czech Republic (with a focus on Methodology 17+) and for the system of evaluation of departments at the UO. Further aim of the course is to learn how to use selected citation software (Zotero, Mendeley). |
