Annotation:
This course is devoted to explaining the factors behind the economic and political changes that have co-created the patterns of development in the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The first objective is a comprehensive introduction to Southeast Asia from chronological and comparative perspectives. The second objective is to demonstrate how the transition process can lead to successful development in the once poor and divided region. ASEAN has become successful regional grouping in the world alongside the EU. Behind the limits of development in the developing world, ASEAN has been a model on how to achieve shared prosperity and peace in the world's most diverse region, and emerge as a mitigating funnel of Indo-Pacific geopolitics.
