This course critically examines crime as a socially constructed phenomenon, focusing on how legal, political, and economic structures shape definitions of crime, criminalization, and justice. Students will engage with key criminological theories and apply them to contemporary case studies, assessing the roles of policing, mass incarceration, and restorative justice. Through a combination of academic readings, structured debates, and applied exercises, students will not only develop a conceptual understanding of criminal behavior and social control but also critically engage with real-world policies and justice system practices.
