Annotation:The aim of this course is the development of students' intermediate communicative competences and presentation skills in English so that they are able to fluently and spontaneously partake in academic discussions, discuss a prepared professional topic connected with their field of study, explain their critical standpoint on a current issue, list positives and negatives of various possibilities, use language effectively for social, academic and professional purposes and be able to create comprehensible, well-structured oral presentations on complex issues. Emphasis will be placed on intercultural competences and stylistic genres relevant for the given program. Students will be able to use common phrases and express politeness in an intercultural environment, they will be able to use appropriate vocabulary, and practice intermediate grammatical structures. The vocabulary and grammar will be chosen with respect to the characterized communication aims and students' needs, be it on academic ground or elsewhere. The final level of the participants is B1+ according to CEFR. The course is not intended for students of English language and literature. The content of the course is developed and continuously adjusted depending on the profile of graduates, the students' needs and the requirements of the department. The main course book will be chosen from the list under "literature". The lecturers will also be using their own tailored source materials.
