Annotation: | English grammar in discourse 2 explores, develops and extends the knowledge of English syntax. The course draws on 1GRA1 and students are expected to understand basic syntactic concepts, units and their functions (phrase, clause). The course builds on the systemic-functional approach and aims to illustrate using authentic texts how syntax contributes to communicating meaning. The course develops advanced syntax terminology. Students will gain the knowledge of clause patterns, complex sentence and sentence complexes. The course adopts contrastive and comparative approach, i.e. confronting English and Czech. The course is taught in English and students must demonstrate a minimum B2 skill level |
