Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Ostrava invites applications for the position of

  • Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Mathematics.

Applications from all mathematical and applied mathematical research areas will be considered, but preference will be given to applications closely related with the main areas of research at the department, particularly

Algebra, Differential Geometry, Mathematical Physics, Number Theory, Optimization, Partial Differential Equations, Spectral Theory, Variational Analysis and Geometry.

The teaching duties will primarily be in undergraduate mathematics, and will also include supervising undergraduate or PhD students. The teaching languages for this position are English and Czech. Fluency in English is expected. The successful candidate should be able to teach in Czech after a maximum of three years of employment.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the position, a PhD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics or in a closely related field is required. Additionally, for the position of Associate Professor and Professor, a habilitation in Mathematics or a closely related field is required by law. Applicants interested in the position of Associate Professor or full Professor but not satisfying the qualification criteria required by the laws of the Czech Republic (documents and diplomas issued in the Czech Republic or nostrified for the corresponding qualification in the Czech Republic) are advised to apply for the position of Assistant Professor and to indicate their interest in progressing to a higher position in the future.

What we offer

Expected start date: 1 April 2017
Work time: 40 hrs/week (or less, depending upon agreement)
Holiday entitlement: 8 weeks
Meals allowance according to university internal regulations
Salary category according to internal salary regulations

  • a PhD diploma (copy or scanned copy)
  • copies of relevant other documents proving qualifications, research and teaching proficiency
  • a motivation letter
  • a full CV with a complete list of publications
  • a description of your recent research and research plan for the next 3 years (not exceeding 3 pages)
  • a list of top 5 publications with descriptions of your main achievements; include reprints as pdf files.
