The Dean of the Faculty of Science of the University of Ostrava announces a job vacancy

  • VP3 Key Researcher in the LERCO project (m/f) with the possibility of extension to a corresponding academic position

The open vacancy is announced within the framework of the Life Environment Research Center Ostrava (LERCO), reg. no. CZ.10.03.01/00/22_003/0000003), Research Program 3 (Modeling and Simulation).

For applicants with a suitable academic profile and pedagogical experience, it may also include a systematized position as an academic staff member in the Department of Physics.

Expected start date

  • 1st of November, 2024 (or as agreed)

Estimated amount of work

  • 100 % (or as agreed)

Qualifications and other requirements

  • University education at the III. level, at least 5 years of experience in research
  • Ph.D. in the field of solid-state physics, materials science, or a related physical science field
  • English at least at the B2 level
  • EU research level: R2 – Recognized/R3 – Established researcher
  • Long-term achievement of outstanding scientific performance in the field of computational solid-state physics, computational chemical physics, or (nano)materials (representation of publications in top journals in the field as the first or corresponding author; as of the start date, at least 30 publications in impact factor journals, at least 1000 citations, and an H-index according to WoS of at least 15)
  • Research in the field of (photo)catalysis of reactions on (nano)materials or (bio)complexes in the last years
  • International experience (documented by postdoctoral internship with a total duration of at least one year at a renowned foreign institution, established international collaboration documented by joint publications)
  • Experience in leading of scientific projects (at least one successfully solved postdoctoral project of international mobility, national grant agency or a comparable level as the principal investigator)
  • Experience in mentoring students

In the case of expanding the position to an academic staff member

  • Experience in supervising university qualification theses
  • Experience in leading of bachelor and master courses

Job Description/Responsibilities

  • Independently solving complex scientific research/development tasks in the field of computational description of (photo)catalysis
  • Collaboration within the research team and with foreign researchers
  • Research projects preparation
  • Active publication activity in the field of (photo)catalysis
  • Mentoring Ph.D. students involved in solving Research Program 3

In the case of expanding the position to an academic staff member:

  • Supervising master's and exceptionally Ph.D. theses, opposing final theses
  • Leading doctoral and master study courses

The first round of the selection process takes the form of a committee evaluation of the materials submitted. Only selected candidates will be invited to the second round - personal interview.

The Dean of the Faculty is entitled to cancel the selection procedure or to refrain from selecting any candidate, without obligation to provide justification.
