Scholarship Information for Ukrainian Students



The University of Ostrava will support both current and new Ukrainian students with a scholarship to help them deal with the difficult situation of their home country, where a war conflict is taking place.

The University of Ostrava will be able to support all Ukrainian students currently studying here and up to 40 new Ukrainian students who will enroll into a study program in the academic year 2022/2023.

  • Ukrainian students studying in the Czech Republic for the first time can receive a one-time scholarship of 10 000 CZK and a regular monthly scholarship of 10 000 CZK. The details of the scholarship programme for Ukrainian students enrolled for the first time to study in the Czech Republic can be found in the Rector's measure No. 168/2022.
  • Existing Ukrainian students at the University of Ostrava can receive a one-off scholarship of 5 000 CZK and a regular monthly scholarship of 7 500 CZK. The details of the scholarship programme for Ukrainian students already studying here can be found in the Rector's measure No. 169/2022.

Instructions for new Ukrainian students:

  1. Choose a study programme in Czech or English.
  2. Apply. The University of Ostrava will organize a special admission procedure for those from Ukraine interested in studying here. We will publish more information about the dates and conditions of this admission procedure during April or May 2022. Keep an eye out on the osu.eu website.
  3. If you have successfully fulfilled the admission requirements and have been nominated for admission, please send a filled-in scholarship application and a motivation letter documenting your adverse social situation in Czech or English (maximum one A4 page) to the  email, by September 7, 2022 or by October 31, 2022 if you are applying for a later admission period.
  4. If you meet the conditions of the Rector's measure No. 168/2022, you can apply for an extension of the scholarship into the summer semester of the academic year 2022/2023. You can do so until February 28, 2023.

Instructions for current Ukrainian students:

  1. If you have met the conditions of the Rector's measure No. 169/2022, you can apply for a scholarship for the summer semester 2021/2022. Send a filled-in scholarship application and a motivational letter documenting your adverse social situation in Czech or English (maximum one A4 page) to the  email, by March 31, 2022.
  2. If you have successfully fulfilled the conditions of the Rector's measure No. 169/2022, you can apply for an extension of the scholarship into the winter semester of the academic year 2022/2023. You can do so until September 7, 2022. You can also apply for an extension of the scholarship into the summer semester of the academic year 2022/2023. You can do so until February 28, 2023.

Study programme offers:

1. Degree programmes taught in Czech

Studying in all Czech programmes is free of charge for all students. Some programmes require you to have a proof of at least B1 Czech language competency. Information about the admission requirements will be a part of the admission procedure and will be set by faculties individually. Due to the special admission procedure for students from Ukraine, the conditions may vary. For more information, please contact the Office for Studies of the faculty you want to study in.

2. Degree programmes taught in English

Studying an English degree programme at the University of Ostrava comes with a tuition fee. The fee is set individually by faculties and may vary for students from Ukraine. For more information, please contact the Office for Studies of the faculty you want to study in.

3. Intensive Czech language courses for applicants newly arriving to the Czech Republic from Ukraine

Intensive three-week Czech language courses for Ukrainian students who arrived in the Czech Republic after February 24, 2022 and wish to apply to study at the University of Ostrava and start their programme in September. The classes take three hours every day.

Online Czech Language courses for prospective students and the public

Czech for Ukrainians (online course) is an online course on the Moodle platform with video tutorials and other work material necessary for self-study. Lesson topics include basic conversational phrases, finding your way around the city, communication at the bureaus and other offices, visits at the doctor, school and more. The course is designed for both the public and as an extension of the intensive three-week courses for Ukrainian applicants to the Czech programmes at the University of Ostrava.
