Operation of the University of Ostrava Has Been Governed by the University Traffic Light
From 8th September 2020, the operation of the UO has been governed by the University Traffic Light of which colour is currently yellow, derived from the epidemiological situation in the Ostrava-City District. The individual faculties and workplaces may declare higher alert level or other regulations beyond the recommendations for the current level of risk. Follow the faculty websites and the colour signs of the UO buildings.
Furthermore, according to the Rector’s provision no. 111/2020, the UO students and employees are obliged to report the positive test for COVID-19 and quarantine. At the same time, people with any symptoms of viral infectious disease (shortness of breath, fever, dry cough, sudden loss of taste and smell) are prohibited from entering the UO buildings.

For international exchange students:
An emergency line operated by the Centre for International Cooperation UO is available for the international exchange students of the University of Ostrava.
We are monitoring and updating the current government and regional regulations and the information about testing for COVID-19 in order to inform the students about their obligations before entering the Czech Republic and about the situation in Czechia and Ostrava whatsoever.
The University of Ostrava has established a Crisis Management Group in the connection with the current epidemiological situation.

0 | Generally:
- Mass events are restricted according to the valid extraordinary measure of the Regional Public Health Authority of the Moravian Silesian Region, the Ministry of Health or government resolution.
- Obligation to wear a face mask is governed by the valid Extraordinary Measures of the Regional Public Health Authority of the Moravian Silesian Region or the Ministry of Heath of the Czech Republic.
Students:
- The contact teaching is limited to 200 people at the same time in one room, the teaching for more than 200 people will be only carried out online/remotely.
- There is an obligation to report a positive test for COVID-19 and quarantine via the application at the UO Portal.
- It is recommended to wear the face mask or other nose and mouth protection even when it is not obligatory by any Extraordinary Measure of the Regional Public Health Authority of the Moravian Silesian Region or the Ministry of Heath of the Czech Republic.
- Have to disinfect hands at all entrances.
- In case of showing any symptoms of COVID-19, the students do not enter the UO buildings.
- International students from COVID-19 high-risk countries have to be tested for COVID-19 at their own expenses.
- If the student proves with medical confirmation that he/she belongs to the risk group, he does not have to attend contact classes after the agreement with the teacher.
Employees:
- There is an obligation to report a positive test for COVID-19 and quarantine via the application at the UO Portal.
- It is recommended to wear the face mask or other nose and mouth protection even when it is not obligatory by any Extraordinary Measure of the Regional Public Health Authority of the Moravian Silesian Region or the Ministry of Heath of the Czech Republic.
- Have to disinfect hands at all entrances.
- Employees coming from COVID-19 high-risk countries have to be tested for COVID-19.
- The foreign business trips follow the regulations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
- In case of showing any symptoms of COVID-19, the employee asks his/her supervisor for home office (or takes “sick days”); if a PCR test is indicated, the next procedure is determined according to its result and the valid algorithm of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic.

- In case of showing any symptoms of COVID-19, the employee asks his/her supervisor for home office (or takes “sick days”); if a PCR test is indicated, the next procedure is determined according to its result and the valid algorithm of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic.
- Recommended to the employees belonging to the risk groups to wear a respirator FFP-2.

The operation of the UO buildings, Halls of Residence and Library is also governed by the regulations of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic and the Regional Public Health Authority of the Moravian Silesian Region.

- The public can enter the UO buildings only upon prior agreement to take care of any necessary official matters (with the exception of university bookstore which remains open to public, the number of entering customers is regulated).
- In the common areas of the UO buildings it is obligatory to wear the face mask.
- It is obligatory to wear the face mask in all other premises when the 2-metre distance cannot be ensured.
Students:
- There is an obligation to report a positive test for COVID-19 and quarantine via the application at the UO Portal.
- Have to disinfect their hands at all entrances.
- The classes mostly take place online/remotely; in-person classes are governed by the valid legislation.
- Field teaching and practical training take place in accordance with the valid legislation.
- Consultations take place upon individual agreement.
- Laboratory, experimental or artistic work take place in accordance with the valid legislation.
- Examinations and Final State Examinations take in accordance with the valid legislation.

Operation of Library:
- The libraries are closed for public, it is possible to borrow books after individual agreement.
- Faculty study rooms are open to students for the purpose of self-study. The maximum number of students present at the same time will be determined by the university library depending on the size of the study room and the valid legislation.
The operation of the UO buildings, Halls of Residence and Library is also governed by the regulations of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic and the Regional Public Health Authority of the Moravian Silesian Region.

- It is obligatory to wear the face mask in all UO premises.
Students:
- There is an obligation to report a positive test for COVID-19 and quarantine via the application at the UO Portal.
- The classes only take place online/remotely.
- Field teaching and practical training take place in accordance with the valid legislation.
- The personal presence of students at the classes in the UO buildings is limited to the necessary extent and is governed by the valid legislation.
- Examinations and Final State Examinations take place mainly online/remotely, in case of personal presence or hybrid mode, the number of people is determined by the valid legislation.
- In research laboratories, the number of people is limited according to the valid legislation.
- Admission of the international students is suspended except for exceptional cases.
- International students from COVID-19 high-risk countries have to be tested for COVID-19 at their own expenses.
- In case of showing any symptoms of COVID-19, the students do not enter the UO buildings.
- Academic ceremonies do no take place.
Employees:
- There is an obligation to report a positive test for COVID-19 and quarantine via the application at the UO Portal.
- Recommended to supervisors to allow their employees to work from home, i.e. home office.
- Employees are forbidden to go on domestic and foreign business trips except when it is absolutely necessary; the necessity of such trip is decided by the relevant supervisor.
- Employees returning from countries with higher risk of COVID-19 infection have to be tested for COVID-19.
- The number of participants at events and meetings are limited in accordance with the valid legislation.
- Admission of the international employees is suspended except for exceptional cases.
- In case of showing any symptoms of COVID-19, the employee asks his/her supervisor for home office (or takes “sick days”); if a PCR test is indicated, the next procedure is determined according to its result and the valid algorithm of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic.
Operation of the UO buildings:
- The opening of buildings is governed by the valid legislation which determines the possibilities of the operation of the universities.
Operation of Halls of Residence:
- The Halls of Residence operation is restricted in accordance with the valid legislation.
Operation of Library:
- The university library and faculty study rooms are closed for public, it is possible to borrow books after individual agreement.
- Faculty study rooms are open to students for the purpose of self-study. The maximum number of students present at the same time will be determined by the university library depending on the size of the study room and the valid legislation.
The operation of the UO buildings, Halls of Residence and Library is also governed by the regulations of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic and the Regional Public Health Authority of the Moravian Silesian Region.
