Annotation: | Mandatory Piano 1 is an additional study subject of Harpsichord specialization within the Instrumental Play study programme. As such, it is designed solely for students of this specialization. Individual lessons aim to improve student´s technical knowledge and expressivity of his/her piano playing. Deepening student´s theoretical knowledge and practical skills by carefully selected repertoire is the main focus of this course. Emphasis is laid mostly on enhancing motor skills which is being sin qua non for the Major in harpsichord specialization. Finger, chord and arcade techniques are attended to, and attention is also paid in developing non legato, portamento and staccato keystrokes alongside with other typical keystrokes as legato, legatissimo and expressivo. By studying his/her own piano repertoire or repertoire of chamber music, the student gets acquainted not only with the most distinguished musical interpretation traditions and approaches, but he/she gains insights and overviews of specific features of piano interpretation. Carefully selected repertoire aids student to explore full range of piano technicalities, its sound and dynamic possibilities, to get acquainted with tone creation and to dive into specific elements of piano works of world best-known piano composers. First semester will see elimination of technical imperfections (if the student displays any) and gradual improvement in developing his/her technical playing foundations. Individual musical expression with emphasis laid on student´s own artistic creativity is sought. Upon completion of this course the student shall be equipped with basic technical and interpreting prowess needed for quality rendering of less demanding and smaller-in-scale music repertoire with comparison to students majoring in piano.
