Annotation: | This course provides an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of gender studies. We will explore some of its theoretical frameworks and key concepts, such as the distinction between sex and gender, the social construction of gender, structural oppression, and intersectionality, which you can subsequently independently use in your own fields of inquiry. Other topics will include the history of the feminist movement and a brief look into how gender relations shape politics, the labor market, family structures, language, media, and art. You will be encouraged to critically reflect on how the normative concepts of femininity/masculinity impact your everyday individual lives and evaluate possible solutions for overcoming gender inequality. |
