Annotation: | English grammar is taught and interpreted with the systemic-functional approach towards language and discourse. The aim is to explore the authentic spoken and written discourse so as to show how morphology and syntax contributes to the meaning. Students will explore the terminology of modern English morphology and syntax on the background of systemic-functional and normative approach; students will also be made aware of theoretical concepts for functionally-oriented grammatical analysis. Students will apply these aspects in authentic texts of varying text types and genres. Students will gain the knowledge of identifying and analyzing morphological and syntactic forms and structures, and will learn how to use them appropriately in various types of communicative tasks and events. The course employs contrastive and comparative approach (confronting English and Czech). |
