Annotation: | The aim of the course is to provide students with an inspiring linguistic background for working with texts as units of interpersonal communication: to show the interrelatedness of texts with the linguistic and extra-linguistic contexts, to reveal the principles of text construction and its functioning in communication, as well as the factors that influence the comprehension of the text and its interpretation by the addressee. Students will be introduced to different approaches to text analysis and will learn to use them to deepen their understanding of texts, to read critically, and to enhance their own writing in different genres and discourse domains. The course is taught online on the LMS Moodle platform of the University of Ostrava, with one introductory and one final in-person sessions at the UO. Most of the online study is asynchronous, with one synchronous online meeting in the middle of the term - the date and time of the synchronous meeting will be agreed on at the introductory in-person session. |
