Anotation | The pragmatic system of language is a part of a whole language system and is considered a tool that children and adults use to learn about the social world. The pragmatic system is also essential in developing and maintaining social relationships whilst engaging in culturally significant activities. The pragmatics of language then links to the expression of thoughts, ideas, wishes, and opinions in a social interaction. The location means of communication and communication partner are also relevant factors. A comprehensive view and research in speech and language therapy, specifically in the field of communication pragmatics, is rarely published in the Czech environment and is directed more towards the topic of Autism spectrum disorders (e.g. Vitásková, Kytnarová, 2017). International approach varies significantly. The view of pragmatics is comprehensive, including recommendations for speech therapy interventions. In the Czech Republic, there is no diagnostic tool available for assessing the pragmatic language. However, with the transition to the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), it will be necessary to evaluate this language domain for establishing certain diagnoses. The Pragmatic Language Skills Inventory (PLSI) is an easy-to-use, norm-referenced rating scale designed to assess children's pragmatic language abilities. The test is designed for children aged 5.0 to 12.11 years. Its 45 items can be administered in only 5-10 minutes. Cut-off scores are provided for determining whether the student exhibits characteristics of a pragmatic language disorder. Speech and language therapists, teachers, early interventionists, and other professionals will find this test useful and thorough. Identify children and students who have a disorder and document progress in ability. |
