AnotationThe presented project The analysis of lexicogrammatical features of L2 English discourse on the background of L1 production aims to enrich the existing research on L2 (learner) English discourse, specifically focusing on discursive essays and their comparison to analogous texts written by native speakers. The analysis will concentrate on the use of lexical bundles in texts of this genre and their lexical sophistication (?academicness?) and information/thematic structure as a means of creating coherence and cohesion. All three approaches have been popular in the research of L2 academic discourse generally as well as in the target languages of this project. However, the genre of short discursive essays has been relatively overlooked. Therefore, by investigating this genre, the project aims to add to the bulk of existing research. The analysis will be based on an L2 corpus of discursive essays written by Czech students, a parallel L2 corpus of essays written by Vietnamese students, and corpora of L1 British/American academic discourse. The projected outcomes of the project are three research articles, five conference papers (two of which will be international) and parts of one dissertation and one MA thesis. Nevertheless, the analysed corpus may further serve as the basis of research articles beyond the scope of the SGS project. Given its focus on L2 discourse, the project?s results may potentially be applied in English academic writing instruction.
